CPIM Class – Detailed Scheduling and Planning

Course Description: Focus on the various techniques for material and capacity scheduling. Study detailed descriptions of material requirements planning (MRP), capacity requirements planning (CRP), inventory management practices, and procurement and supplier planning. Topics include: Recognizing Techniques and Practices of Inventory Management, Mechanics of the Detailed Material Planning Process, Planning Operations to Support the Priority Plan, and Planning Procurement and External Sources of Supply. CPIM Class – Basics of Supply Chain Management

Course Description: This is an introductory course for production and inventory management personnel and CPIM candidates. This course provides basic definitions and concepts for planning and controlling the flow of materials into, through, and out of an organization. It explains fundamental relationships among the activities that occur in the supply chain from suppliers to customers. In addition, the course addresses types of manufacturing systems, forecasting, master planning, materials requirement planning (MRP), capacity management, production activity control, purchasing, inventory management, distribution, quality management, and Just-in-Time manufacturing. Cost: Members – $399, Non-members – $525.
CPIM Class – Master Planning of Resources

Course Description: Explore the processes used to develop sales and operations plans and identify and assess internal and external demand and forecasting requirements. The course focuses on the importance of producing achievable master schedules that are consistent with business policies, objectives, and resource constraints. Topics include: Demand Management, Sales and Operations Planning, Master Scheduling, and Measuring Business Performance. Cost: Members – $399, Non-members – $525.

Basics of Inventory Management
The APICS Pittsburgh Chapter is offering a two-day workshop on the Basics of Inventory Management which will be held at a site and time that will be determined.
This interactive workshop will provide in depth coverage of vital inventory management topics such as cycle counting, inventory control systems, material requirements planning and physical inventory. This course is an ideal introduction to Inventory Management for newer employees as well as a valuable refresher for materials management veterans.
Ample time will be provided for group discussion of inventory management issues that are brought to the workshop. Also, each participant will receive a set of five participant workbooks, which will serve as a valuable reference resource long after the class is over.
The class hours are from 8:00 to 4:00 on the two days with lunch and refreshments included. The instructor is Jack Martis. Cost is $399 for members and $525 for non-members. This course has been well attended by participants from a wide range of companies and received very favorable reviews. Transportation Analyst
Description:
- Coordinate all activities related to scheduling transportation of material to and from the site.
- Monitor production and adjust timing of transport to prevent/minimize detention and secure equipment and driver requirements.
- Maintain close communication with Customer Care Center to convert customer orders into transportation requirements in order to meet on-time delivery targets.
- Coordinate all load rack activities, scheduling around capacity constraints while ensuring efficient utilization of resources.
- Work with plant personnel, Planners and Customer Care groups to effectively shift transportation and load rack scheduling in order to minimize off-grade material created in cross-contamination reduction efforts.
- Work with Planners and carriers to expedite or delay shipments to terminals and transloaders to achieve a balanced supply of material by location.
- Perform all rail related activities such as balancing of railcar inventory, scheduling railcar cleaning, managing railcar moves to minimize demurrage, create switch lists and manage fleet and track maintenance.
- On occasion, provide transportation support and technical expertise to improve processes at BASF partners such as terminals and transloaders.
- Responsible for data mining and analysis on demurrage, shipping reliability, carrier performance and customer order trends.
- Support finite scheduling function, ensuring production plan accurately reflects customer demand, inventory targets and is built around plant constraints.
Qualifications:
- BA/BS Degree in Business, Logistics, or Supply Chain related field. BASF recognizes Institutions of Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent.
- APICS CPIM, CIRM, or CSCP certification or nearing completion of certification desired. Active in local APICS Chapter desired.
- Hands-on working knowledge of SAP R/3 desired.
- Experience in Supply Chain desired, particularly in a manufacturing environment.
- Excellent organizational, communication, collaborative and interpersonal skills.
- Strong analytical skills and ability to multi-task.
- Highly motivated and enthusiastic self-starter.
- Works independently under general supervision.
- Excellent computer skills within Microsoft Office Suite.
